Rourkela: A team from Silicon Steel Mill of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has bagged the prestigious 3 Star Award,highest in its category, in the International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC) - 2012 held at Kuala Lumpur.
The 'Aakash Quality circle team had gone through a stringent selection process at National level QC conference held in Hyderabad before being selected for participation in ICQCC 2012 in Malaysia, RSP sources said Sunday.
It is worth mentioning here that the team had providedan innovative solution for the chronic problem of Looper rope failure in AP Line of SSM.
By developing in-house a simple and effective logical circuit for proper braking of the Looper drum, the team has effected a reduction in production stoppage of 28 hours per month with a financial savings of Rs 56 lakh per annum.
The other intangible benefits of this innovative job are elimination of safety hazards, simplification of the job, improved reliability of the looper equipment and most importantly a significant gain in the confidence of the team members to tackle any such problem in the future, they said.
