New York: US Representative for New York's 12th congressional district Carolyn B. Maloney on Monday recalled ties between India and the US saying we share not only friendship but also strategic partnership on many sectors, the remark which was tweeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Maloney also expressed how Modi, who is on seven-day visit to the US from Saturday, was welcomed in "Howdy, Modi!" event organised on Sunday at NRG stadium in Houston where historic Indian American gathering was noted.

"When he came to New York roughly five years ago, we gave him a welcome by 25,000 people but in Texas 50,000 people welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi which is the largest gathering in the history of our country of Indian American congregation," Maloney said at an event.

"Seven decades since India's independence is very appropriate that the world's largest democracy is our such good fried... We share not only friendship but also strategic partnership with India in so many sectors like commerce, trade and even values," she said.

Modi later tweeted the video in which Maloney was speaking at the event.

The Prime Minister said: "Eminent Congresswoman from New York,@RepMaloney speaks about the strong ties between India and USA, as well as the #HowdyModi community event in Houston."
