Southern Odisha on high alert as Cyclone Montha nears; fishermen urged to return to shore

An alert has been sounded across Odisha in view of the impending cyclone. Warnings have been issued from Ganjam to Paradip, with authorities urging people to stay vigilant.

Due to the forecast of heavy rainfall in southern Odisha, awareness campaigns are being conducted in various parts of Ganjam district. Officials are using public announcement systems in villages to advise residents to remain cautious.

Similarly, in Dhamra, fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea, and alerts have been issued to ensure safety along the coastal areas. Meanwhile, fishermen in Paradip are returning safely from the sea.

Precautionary Measures For Coastal Communities

Reports indicate that although Cyclone Montha’s projected path is not directly towards Odisha, several regions of the state are likely to experience its effects. 

In Chandbali, authorities are using loudspeakers and megaphones to alert fishermen who ventured into the sea, urging them to return to shore immediately.

According to sources, many fishermen have already begun returning, while a few remain at sea. The administration is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safe return of all fishing boats.

Cyclone Shelters On Standby

As per reports, authorities and families of fishermen are taking precautionary measures, given that cyclones can change course unexpectedly. Cyclone shelters are placed on standby, and residents of low-lying areas are being advised to remain vigilant. Officials have confirmed that arrangements are in place to relocate people to higher ground if conditions deteriorate.
