A severe cold wave has tightened its grip over Odisha, with several districts shivering under plummeting temperatures. Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Khordha are among the worst affected as the mercury continues to fall steadily.

According to early morning reports, Jharsuguda recorded 11°C at 5:30 am on Tuesday. In Kandhamal’s G. Udayagiri, the temperature dropped even further, touching a biting 5.4°C, making it one of the coldest regions in the state. On Monday, six towns recorded temperatures below 10°C, indicating the intensifying winter conditions.

Meanwhile, dense fog in several areas has disrupted normal life. With visibility remaining poor until around 11 am, transportation has been hit badly, causing inconvenience to commuters and slowing down vehicular movement.

The state capital of Bhubaneswar has also been experiencing a persistent cold spell for the past few days, adding to the overall winter discomfort across Odisha. However, as per the regional Meteorological department, the situation is likely to ease further from today, with the temperature expected to rise further by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

The conditions in coastal districts, where the mercury had plummeted by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, will ease with the weather office predicting a temperature rise, bringing respite from the chilling cold. Similarly, the condition in interior Odisha will get better from today, the weather office predicted.
