Low-pressure likely to develop tomorrow; Odisha braces for more rain till Oct 27

Odisha is set to experience more rainfall in the coming days as a new low-pressure area is expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal tomorrow. This development comes while the impact of a previous low-pressure system still being felt across the state.

According to the Regional Meteorological Department, a cyclonic circulation over the southeastern Bay of Bengal near the South Andaman Sea is currently active. This system is anticipated to give rise to a low-pressure area in the eastern central Bay of Bengal region by tomorrow. The system is expected to move west-northwest and intensify further within the next 24 hours.

In light of this, the department has forecasted rainfall in various parts of Odisha until the 27th of this month. Additionally, a yellow warning has been issued for several southern districts, urging residents to stay prepared for moderate to heavy rain.

“In the next 24 hours, southern Odisha districts like Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, will experience light to moderate rainfall. The wind speed will be around 30-40km/hr with thunderstorms and lightning in a few places,” informed MeT Director Manorama Mohanty.

Officials have advised caution, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as continuous rainfall may cause waterlogging and disruption. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have urged people to stay updated through official weather bulletins.
