Cyclonic storm Shakhti intensifies, to reach northwest and adjoining west central Arabian sea by Oct 5: IMD

The India Meteorological Department reported that Cyclone Shakhti in the northeast Arabian Sea intensified into a severe storm, moving westward at kmph in the last hours.

Cyclonic storm Shakhti intensifies, to reach northwest and adjoining west central Arabian sea by Oct 5: IMD

The cyclonic storm ‘Shakhti’ over the northeast Arabian Sea moved westwards with a speed of 13 kmph during the last 6 hours and further intensified into a severe cyclonic storm, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday.

As per IMD, the severe cyclonic storm Shakhti is about 420 km west of Dwarka (42731), 420 km west-southwest of Naliya (42631), 390 km south-southwest of Karachi (Pakistan, 41780) and 480 km west of Porbandar.

It is likely to move west-southwestwards and reach the northwest and adjoining west central Arabian Sea by 5th October. Thereafter, it will recurve and move east-northeastwards from the morning of 6th October 2025 and weaken gradually.

Wind warning:

Gale wind speed reaching 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph is prevailing over the northwest Arabian Sea & adjoining northeast Arabian Sea. Wind speed would gradually increase, becoming 100-110 kmph gusting to 125 kmph by 4th October for the subsequent 24 hours. Thereafter, wind speed would gradually decrease, becoming 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph by 6th October and 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph by 7th October.

Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 gusting to 65 kmph is prevailing over the central Arabian Sea. Winds would gradually increase, becoming gale wind speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph till 4th October and further increase becoming reaching 100-110 kmph gusting to 125 kmph over adjoining areas of the central Arabian Sea from  5th October. Thereafter, wind speed would gradually decrease, becoming 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph by 6th, and 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph by 7th October.

Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 gusting to 65 kmph is very likely to prevail along & off Gujarat -north Maharashtra coasts during 4th to 7th October.

Sea condition:

Sea condition is very likely to be very high over the Northwest and adjoining northeast Arabian Sea during 4th to 7th October.

Sea condition is very likely to be rough to very rough over adjoining areas of the central Arabian Sea during 4th to 5th October/1200 UTC and high to very high from midnight of 5th October to 7th October.

Sea condition is very likely to be rough to very rough along and off the Gujarat-north Maharashtra coast and Pakistan coasts till 7th October.
