Cyclonic circulation over Bay, Odisha set for warmer days ahead

A cyclonic circulation hovering over the southeast Bay of Bengal, extending up to 1.5 kilometres above mean sea level, continues to persist, but its immediate impact on Odisha remains limited. Instead of widespread rain or stormy conditions, the state is preparing for a gradual rise in temperatures over the next few days.

Over the past 24 hours, light rainfall was recorded at one or two places in parts of Coastal Odisha, including Nayagarh, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam and Gajapati. The rest of the state, however, remained dry, with clear skies dominating most districts.

Temperature patterns across Odisha have shown a mixed trend. At a few locations, minimum temperatures dipped by about 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, while at some other places they rose by nearly 3 degrees. Elsewhere, there was little change. In parts of Interior Odisha, night temperatures were recorded as much as 5 degrees above normal at isolated locations, while some places saw departures of around 2 degrees above normal.

Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the plains of Odisha, recording a maximum temperature of 35.8°C. In contrast, Rourkela registered the lowest minimum temperature at 12.2°C, highlighting the variation between day and night conditions across the state.

Looking ahead, both day and night temperatures are expected to climb gradually. The maximum (daytime) temperature is likely to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next three days across Odisha districts, with no significant change thereafter. Minimum (night) temperatures are also forecast to increase by 2 to 3 degrees during the same period before stabilizing.

As for rainfall, dry weather is expected to prevail across the state for the next three days. However, residents in Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapada may wake up to shallow to moderate fog during early morning hours on Day 1 and Day 2, potentially affecting visibility for commuters.

No weather warnings have been issued for any district.
