According to local reports, farmers in the region are already reeling from the impact of multiple floods earlier in 2025, which damaged crops spread across thousands of acres. The possibility of another natural calamity has left cultivators worried about further losses.

The apprehension is particularly high among vegetable growers, who have recently transplanted saplings and fear that strong winds and heavy rains could destroy their newly planted crops.

Farmers have urged the administration to closely monitor the situation and ensure early measures to minimize potential damage.

Potential Impact On Crops

Although the current projected path of Cyclone Montha is unlikely to affect Balasore directly, the associated rainfall could still damage crops, leading to potential financial losses for farmers, reportedly. This concern comes after the significant losses suffered during last year’s cyclone, leaving cultivators wary of further damage.

Farmers Highlight Expected Losses

One farmer stated, “I planted brinjal, bitter gourd and green chillies. The rains could damage these crops, and we would face heavy losses.”

Another farmer added, “Last year, when cyclone Dana hit, all our crops were destroyed, and we did not receive any government assistance. We are in a state of panic following the news of the upcoming cyclone.”
