The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Odisha on alert as the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm within the next 24 hours and further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by October 28.
IMD Bhubaneswar Director Manorama Mohanty said, “The system is likely to strengthen into a cyclone soon and may intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm by October 28 as predicted.”
According to the IMD, Cyclone Montha is expected to cross near Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam in Kakinada, along the Andhra Pradesh coast. The wind speed is forecast to range between 90 and 100 kmph, gusting up to 110 kmph.
As per reports, heavy rain is likely to continue across parts of Odisha from October 27 to 29. Districts including Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Boudh are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall during this period.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Kandhamal.
Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of
Nuapada, Bolangir, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur.
Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 28.10.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 29.10.2025)
Red Warning: Scattered heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Malakangiri, Koraput, Rayagarh, Gajpati, and Ganjam.
Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places in
the districts of Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhmal, Nayagarh, Khordha, and Puri.
Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.10.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 30.10.2025)
Red Warning: Scattered heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Malakangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, and Rayagarh.
Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places in
the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Boudh, Kandhamal, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
