A resurfaced video from Bengaluru showing a traffic police constable slapping a two-wheeler rider during a routine traffic enforcement drive has sparked widespread outrage online. Though the incident occurred last October, the footage has once again brought police conduct and accountability into sharp public focus.
According to a report, the incident took place on October 13, 2025, near the busy Silk Board junction during a traffic enforcement drive aimed at curbing violations of one-way traffic rules. The drive began shortly after 11 am, following verbal instructions issued to traffic personnel across the city.
What Triggered the Confrontation
The altercation unfolded under the Silk Board flyover when two men on a motorcycle were found riding against the one-way restriction. They were stopped by personnel from the Madiwala traffic police station.
The constable involved was identified as Mallikarjuna Teli, who was assisting an assistant sub-inspector at the spot. His duty included stopping violators and issuing spot fines.

Assault Caught on Camera
During the interaction, the rider, identified as Nitesh from Kerala, questioned the authority of the police to stop vehicles and collect spot fines. The disagreement escalated, and the constable slapped Nitesh while he was still wearing his helmet.
After removing his helmet, Nitesh questioned the assault, repeatedly saying, “Sir, maro mat” (Sir, don’t hit me). Instead of de-escalating, the constable allegedly struck him again. The entire incident was recorded by the pillion rider.
Public Outrage Online
After the video resurfaced, social media users strongly criticised the constable’s actions, calling the behaviour unprofessional, abusive and unacceptable for a law enforcement officer.
Cop Suspended, Case Registered
Following the incident, DCP (Traffic-South) Gopal M Byakod confirmed that the constable was suspended. A case was registered against Nitesh for violating one-way traffic rules, and a Rs 500 fine was collected.
A Reminder on Accountability
The incident has reignited conversations around respectful policing, reinforcing the need for law enforcement to uphold the law without crossing its limits.
