A disturbing incident at a Zepto store in East Delhi has triggered widespread outrage after a young delivery rider was allegedly assaulted and humiliated for a trivial reason. The episode, caught on CCTV, has raised serious questions about worker dignity and safety in the quick-commerce sector.
The incident took place at a Zepto store in Kondli, New Delhi, where delivery rider Rishabh Kumar was allegedly beaten and forced to squat like a chicken by store staff. According to police officials, the assault occurred after Kumar sprayed perfume on himself inside the store, an act that was noticed and objected to by other employees. CCTV footage of the incident shows the rider being physically assaulted and publicly humiliated.
Police confirmed that the store owner and staff were involved in the attack. Rishabh suffered both physical and mental trauma and is currently undergoing a medical check-up.

Police Action and Investigation
The New Ashok Nagar police have registered an FIR against the store owner and launched an investigation into the matter. Officials said swift action was taken after receiving information about the assault, and efforts are underway to hold those responsible accountable.
As per reports, the injured rider is around 18 years old and resides in Harijan Basti near Ambedkar Park in Old Kondli. He is the son of Lalla Babu.
Public Outrage Grows
The incident has sparked sharp reactions online, with many users condemning the treatment meted out to the worker. Social media users questioned how such punishment could be justified for a minor personal action, while others criticised the mindset that denies workers basic personal freedom.
Wider Context of Worker Unrest
The incident comes just days after delivery workers associated with the Indian Federation of App-Based Transport Workers held a strike on December 31, protesting low pay, poor working conditions and lack of security.
As investigations continue, the case has intensified calls for stronger safeguards to protect gig workers from abuse and humiliation at the workplace.
