Animal cruelty remains one of the most disturbing realities of modern society, a silent crime that often goes unseen until it’s too late. Despite growing awareness and stricter laws, countless animals continue to suffer neglect, violence, and abuse at the hands of humans. From abandoned pets to deliberate acts of torture, such incidents highlight a heartbreaking lack of empathy and accountability.
In a shocking case of animal cruelty from Bengaluru, a domestic help was caught on CCTV allegedly killing a pet dog named Goofy. The horrifying act took place on October 31 inside an apartment complex, leaving residents outraged and the pet’s family heartbroken.
What the CCTV Footage Revealed
The chilling footage shows the accused, identified as Pushpalatha, throwing the small dog inside a lift and subjecting it to violent abuse. Goofy’s owner, Rashi Poojari, discovered the disturbing video and immediately lodged a complaint with Bagaluru Police. The pet, despite efforts to revive it, succumbed to its injuries soon after.

Police Action and Investigation
Pushpalatha, who had been employed by the family for about one and a half months, has gone absconding since the case was filed. Police have registered an FIR under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which treats intentional harm or killing of animals as a criminal offence punishable by up to five years in jail and a fine. Authorities confirmed that it is a non-bailable offence, allowing arrest without a warrant.
A search operation is currently underway to trace the accused.
A Disturbing Trend
This is not the first such case in Bengaluru. Earlier in June, a woman in Mahadevapura was arrested for allegedly killing her Labrador during an occult ritual.
A Call for Compassion
The tragic death of Goofy has reignited demands for stricter animal cruelty laws and public awareness. For many pet owners, it’s not just about justice; it’s a plea to treat every life, human or animal, with empathy and respect.
