The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday shared latest update on the impending cyclonic storm Sitrang. The IMD’s Bhubaneswar regional centre said that the low pressure area has intensified into depression over southeast Bay of Bengal close to Andaman Islands today.

The IMD has predicted that a fresh disturbance will be active from today (March 23) and the effect will be visible in several parts of Odisha on March 25 and 26. Several parts of the State are likely to receive light to moderate showers.
An ‘Orange Warning’ for thunderstorm with lightning and hailstorm has also been issued for several districts for the next 24 hours.
As per IMD, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Cuttack in the next 24 hours.
Following sweltering heat over the last few days, different places in North, West and South Odisha witnessed intense to moderate thunderstorm activity.
