A cyclone is heading towards Odisha Coast! The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone alert over North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha coasts.
The MeT Centre informed that the depression over Bay of Bengal (BoB), intensified into a Deep Depression over North and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal on September 25 morning.
The deep depression is likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm during the next 12 hrs and is expected to cross South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts around Kalingapatnam area by evening of September 26.
The IMD further informed that the system would continue to move west-north westwards, intensify further into a Depression around January 31
A low pressure area has formed over the East Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday, that under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, a Low Pressure Area has formed over the same region.
The system is likely to move gradually west-northwest over southwest Bay of Bengal and reach near Sri Lanka coast during subsequently three days.
Light/moderate & fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/snowfall is likely over Western Himalayan Region and light to moderate, scattered to widespread rainfall is expected over the plains of northwest India on January 29 and 30
The IMD further informed that the system would continue to move west-north westwards, intensify further into a Depression around January 31
