Although cyclone Gulab did not affect Odisha as it was anticipated, several districts in the state are witnessing incessant rainfall due to deep depression caused after the landfall. Ganjam, Gajapati, Bolangir, Rayagada,Kalahandi, Nuapada experienced incessant rainfall from yesterday.
Areas in Southern Odisha witnessed heavy rainfall and strong winds from Sunday midnight till Monday morning. Koraput district was the most affected with damages to hoses and disruption in road communication due to uprooting of trees.
Communications have also been affected in Malkangiri district due to uprooted trees blocking the roads and National Highways in some other places. NDRF and ODRF have launched rescue operations.
There seems to be no respite from heatwave for the people in several parts of Odisha as the mercury level touched 41 degree mark by 11:30 am on Sunday.
The Odisha government on Friday confirmed that one person has so far died of sunstroke this season.
The India Meteorological Department has warned that parts of India will witness extreme heatwave conditions during the months of April, May and June.
