In a major fillip to Indian govt’s Make In India initiative, Tata Group is on the brink of becoming India's first domestic iPhone manufacturer after agreeing to purchase Wistron's facility in southern India for $125 million. Tata Electronics will be the first Indian company to manufacture new Apple iPhones in the country. The transaction is pending confirmation, signing of agreements, and necessary approvals. Once completed, Wistron will comply with regulatory requirements. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar praised Tata for taking over Wistron's operations and recognized India's role in Apple's global supply chain, facilitated by the production-linked incentive scheme. Within two and half years, Tata Companies will manufacture iPhones for both domestic and global markets. The minister said that this is a "great going for Apple in building a global supply chain from India with Indian companies at its helm".
