High drama unfolded during Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to Baripada in Mayurbhanj on Friday (Oct 22). A violent clash between workers of the ruling-BJD and opposition party members on Friday.
As per reports, unhappy over the CM's visit to the district, some BJP and JMM workers staged a black flags demonstration and raised slogans. Sources said that the protestors managed to reach the helipad area, where the CM was supposed to arrive, despite elaborate security arrangements.
However, irate BJD members allegedly thrashed the protestors in a bid to prevent them. As per reports, the protestors suffered critical injuries in the attack and were escorted out of the spot immediately.
BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra condemned the attack and demanded immediate arrest of persons involved in the attack, stating that the workers were thrashed in the presence of the police. It is to be noted that CM Naveen visited Baripada to distribute smart health cards under the Biju Swastha Kalyan Yojana and also laid the foundation stone for several projects worth Rs 2500 Crore.
