Visiting ATM Kiosks? Here Are Top ATM Safety Hacks To Protect Your Money

In this digital age where online payments are soaring, many people across the country still rely on hard cash for their transactions. For these individuals, banks and ATMs remain essential for daily cash withdrawals. But did you know that visiting an ATM could make you a target of fraudsters?
The risks of falling into a scam are real, but there’s good news. The Commissionerate Police has stepped in with a set of simple, effective precautions to help users stay safe at ATM counters and avoid losing their hard-earned money. Sharing these tips on their official X handle, the Commissionerate police outlined practical steps everyone can follow to ensure that their ATM experience is secure and fraud-free.

Beware of shoulder surfing: Next when you visit any ATM, maintain a safe distance from others while entering your PIN or operating the ATM.
Keep the screen private: One should stand close to the ATM screen to ensure no one sees his/her transactions. Many modern ATMs also have privacy filters, so use them effectively.
Shield your PIN: When you insert your card, check the card slot and keypad for any loose or any unusual attachments. This is because skimming devices can be used to steal your card details.
Avoid Public Wi-fi: While using your phone near an ATM for checking balances or receiving OTPs, avoid connecting to unsecured public wi-fi as it can expose you to hackers.
Enable transaction alerts: Register your mobile number to receive instant SMS alerts for all bank transactions.
Use ATMs in safe locations: Prefer ATMs located inside bank premises, malls or other secure well-lit areas.
