The woes of suspended Barchana Lady IIC Madhusmita Behera are mounting with fresh allegations of fraud in Odisha's Jajpur district. A complaint has been lodged at Nishchintakoili police station, accusing her of cheating two more people of several lakhs of rupees.
Cuttack Rural SP confirmed that four persons have already been arrested in the case. Police are probing the wider network and have urged other victims of the fraud to come forward and file complaints.
The Cuttack Rural SP has also appealed that if anyone else has fallen victim to this fraud, they should come forward and file a complaint.
Meanwhile, photos of the suspended IIC with the arrested journalist, Subhashis Basantray, have gone viral on social media. Police have also written to banks to scrutinise and freeze the accounts of the accused.
However, questions are being raised over why the suspended IIC has not yet been arrested.
SP STATEMENT
“Already three cases have been lodged in that connection, and four accused have been arrested and forwarded to jail. Further investigation into the case is on. I request the victims to come forward and lodge a complaint. We will not reveal the identity of the victims. The investigation in the case is in progress, and action will be taken if anyone is subsequently found guilty,” informed Cuttack Rural SP Vinit Agrawal.
