Central Govt Moves 2000 BSF Personnel From Odisha's Koraput And Malkangiri To Terror-Hit Jammu
Jammu and Kashmir has experienced a surge in terrorist activities over the past few months. On 27th of july, a group of two to three Pakistani armed personnel crossed the Line of Control and fired on an Indianarmy post in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district.One Pakistani intruder was killed in the exchange of fire while one Indian Army soldier injured in the encounter succumbed to his injuries. Keeping this situation insight, govt immediately decided to increase security in India’s northern tip. The government has ordered the extraction of two BSF battalionsfrom Odisha, comprising more than 2,000 personnel,to the terror-hit Jammu region along the India-Pakistan border. One BSF battalion is withdrawn from Malkangiri district and the other from Koraput district of Odisha on the directions of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Officials stated that the two Border Security Force units were intended to serve as a "second line" of defense, positioned behind the first tier of units along the international border in Jammu to prevent terrorist infiltration. The border securityforce guards more than 2,289 kilometres of the international boundary that runs along Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat Security in the Jammu area has come into focus following a series of terror attacks in Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Udhampur, Kathua and Doda districts this year that have led to the killings of 22 people, including 11 security personnel and a village defence guard member. Five terrorists were killed in two encounters in Kathua and Doda districts last month. The officials said that the decision regarding the deployment of replacements for these two battalions would be taken later.
