Balasore Flood: Odisha Govt Announces Financial Aid For Victims, Compensation For House Damage
Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi has announced financial assistance for flood-affected residents of Balasore district following significant damage from recent rains. Families with completely destroyed homes will receive ₹1,20,000 for repairs, while those with partially damaged structures will get between ₹4,000 and ₹6,500 depending on the type of house. Additionally, families whose homes were submerged for two days will be compensated with ₹5,000 for clothing and kitchen wares.
Small and marginal farmers will be aided for crop losses: Govt has announced ₹8,500 per hectare for non-irrigated land, ₹17,000 for irrigated, and ₹22,500 for perennial crops, up to two hectares. Assistance for sand deposition and pond recovery will also be provided. Fishermen will receive compensation for damaged boats and nets, with specific amounts based on the extent of damage.
For livestock losses, financial aid includes ₹37,500 per milking buffalo or cow, ₹4,000 for goats, and ₹32,000 for draft animals, limited to a specific number per family. Additionally, artisans will receive ₹5,000 each for handloom and handicraft losses. This assistance comes in the wake of severe flooding caused by low-pressure rain, prompting an aerial survey by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on September 18.
