5 High Ranking Odisha Police Officers Suspended For ‘Molestation’ Of Army Officer & His Fiancé
The Odisha Police has suspended five cops including the Inspector In Charge of Bharatpur police station on charges of gross misconduct. According to a notification issued by the Odisha Police, the five suspended police are IIC Dinakrushna Mishra, SI Baisalini Panda, ASI Salilamayee Sahoo, ASI Sagarika Rath and Constable Balaram Handa.
As per the allegation, a Army Major of Sikh Regiment Major Gurvansh Singh and his fiancé were travelling in a car when they were obstructed and misbehaved by some miscreants. When the victims visited Bharatpur police station, they were misbehaved and brutally assaulted by the cops instead of registering the complaint.
The Major was allegedly kept in the lockup and when his girlfriend voiced her protest, she was also brutally assaulted by the police. Even Bharatpur police station IIC allegedly threatened to rape her.
After coming to know about the development, Army intervened and subsequently, the Major was released and medical checkup of his girlfriend was conducted. As per the medical checkup report at Sum Hospital, the woman has been brutally assaulted.
A five-member team of the Crime Branch led by DSP Narendra Kumar Behera quizzed the Bharatpur police station staff for four hours. However, the team had to return empty-handed as there was no CCTV camera installed in the police station and the IIC was absent.
Earlier yesterday, Bharatpur police station IIC and two other cops were transferred by the Commissionerate Police to facilitate a fair investigation into the allegation of ‘assault and arrest’ .
According to a notification issued by the Commissionerate Police, Bharatpur police station IIC Dinakrushna Mishra has been transferred and posted to the office of DCP, Bhubaneswar.
Similarly, ASI Salilamayee Sahoo of Bharatpur police station has been transferred and posted to the office of DCP, Bhubaneswar while constable Balaram Hansda has been transferred and posted to RO Bhubaneswar.
The move from the Commissionerate Police came after Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania ordered a Crime Branch probe into the allegations.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army has taken up the matter seriously.
