Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Twitter handle was ‘briefly compromised’, informed Prime Minister’s Office on Sunday. Suspicion grew after a tweet claiming that India has "officially adopted bitcoin as legal tender" was hosted by his official handle.
The Prime Minister's Office later said the account was immediately secured after the matter was escalated to Twitter. Hours after Prime Minister’s Twitter account was hacked and restored, the micro blogging site clarified “it had investigated the matter and it appeared that the account “was not compromised due to any breach of Twitter’s systems”.
The Twitter spokesperson said that they have 24X7 open lines of communication with the PM's Office and their teams took necessary steps to secure the compromised account as soon as they became aware of this activity. He also informed that investigation has revealed that there are no signs of any other impacted accounts at this time.
