India Sees Historic Decline In Poverty! 25 Crore Indians Escaped Multidimensional Poverty In 9 Years
As many as 24.82 crore Indians moved out of multidimensional poverty in 9 years. A NITI Aayog report claims that India’s poverty ratio has dropped from 29.17% in 2013-14 to 11.28% in the previous financial year. The NITI Aayog’s National Multidimensional Poverty Index is not just based on per capita income; but follows globally defined sustainable development goals like Access to health care, education, sanitation, etc called multidimensional poverty indicators. The data used for the study was based on National Family Health Survey of India over the last nine years. The report further highlights that during the period, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh witnessed the fastest reduction. India is also likely to achieve the sustainable development goal target of reducing poverty by half, much ahead of 2030. India is likely to achieve SDG Target much ahead of 2030. Highlighting this achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his social media handle and stated, ‘We will continue to work towards all-round development and to ensure a prosperous future for every Indian.’
