This is the curious case of Evie Toombes, a star showjumping athlete.
‘I should not have been born!’ was Evie’s argument and she is expected to walk away with millions in payout after winning her case.
London High Court ruled in her favour after the 20-year-old sued her mother's doctor for allowing her birth. Evie is born with a spinal defect called 'spina bifida' in which the spine and spinal cord fail to develop properly in the womb causing a gap.
Due to this condition, Evie reportedly is forced to spend 24-hours-a-day connected to various tubes.
In her ‘wrongful conception’ suit, Evie claimed that if the doctor had given warning, then her mother would have put off her pregnancy and she would have never been born! In a landmark verdict, the London’s High Court awarded Evie with a huge compensation expected to the tune of millions that will help to cover the cost of lifelong care.
However, despite her condition, Toombes has created a career in para-showjumping and she competes against both disabled and able-bodied riders.
