History repeats itself they say. Once, the queen of Jhansi Rani Lakshmi Bai tied her baby to her back and fought the British; and now this is another Lakshmi, who has also strapped her baby on her back but this, is a fight for a living.
Lakshmi Mukhi has been a sweeper at the Baripada Municipality for almost 10 years now. Her plight came to light when images of her sweeping the roads with her child tied to her back went viral on the social media.
However, Lakshmi says it is not a problem for her, instead it is her duty. Meanwhile, Baripada Municipality Chairperson Badal Mohanty said that he has instructed his officials to look after her needs and also assured support to her.
