Puri Woman Critical In Gunshot During Extortion Bid At Bank Employee’s House

A woman sustained grievous injuries after being shot at by two miscreants during an extortion bid at her house in Narendrakona of Puri district late on Tuesday night.

The victim Shakuntala Sahu is the wife of Jitendra Sahu, who happens to be a bank employee. Critically injured Shakuntala was initially rushed to District Headquarters Hospital in Puri and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after her condition deteriorated.

As per reports, around midnight on Tuesday, two miscreants arrived at their house and kept banging at the doors in a bid to extort money. When Jitendra didn’t open the doors, the miscreants opened fire at the couple through the grills of the house. While trying to save her husband, Shakuntala got hit by a bullet in her waist.

The victim’s family claimed that the miscreants had demanded extortion money from Jitendra four months ago and a complaint was also lodged in this regard at the police station.
