Pangolin Poaching In Odisha
For its scales and meat and other medicinal properties, it seems as if pangolins have unfortunately become the world's most trafficked animal currently. On Wednesday, another pangolin smuggling racket was busted in Odisha in the forest division of Khordha.
Over 4 kg pangolin scales were confiscated from Dhala Pathara area by a team of the Odisha forest department while two persons found in possession of the scales were arrested.
The duo was negotiating a sale deal of the scales when forest department personnel raided the area. Both of them scuffled with police but were overpowered and nabbed.
Sources said that after the pangolin died, the wildlife criminals removed its scales and packed it in a cement bag for easy transportation.
As per reports, acting on a tip-off a trap was laid to nab the poachers following directions of Khordha DFO. Three teams were formed and as per plan, simultaneous raids were conducted at various places.
The two criminals have been court forwarded while further investigation is on.
