Hyderabad Man Becomes First Dwarf To Get Driving License In India
Gone are those days when people were judged by their physical appearances or disabilities. The world has started recognizing real talents as their ‘nothing is impossible’ spirit has become a source of inspiration for many. Recently, dwarf para-athlete KY Venkatesh was conferred with Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award of the country.
Now, this is Gattipally Shivalal who has again proved that dwarfs may be having a short stature but they do not possess a small mindset. 42-year-old Gattipally Shivpal, who hails from Kutapally in Hyderabad, has beaten all odds to become the first dwarf in India to obtain a driving license. With a height of about 3-ft, Shivalal had to depend on public transport to commute as he was unable to drive.
People even passed nasty comments on his height, which made him uncomfortable and he felt the need to learn driving. Fortunately, Shivalal came across video of a dwarf man driving a car in United States. Such was his determination that he travelled to US to understand its mechanics. After returning to India, Shivalal approached a man who custom-made cars in Hyderabad and customized his car.
His vehicle is automatic and without gears which has been approved by the Telangana Government. Now, Shivalal teaches driving to his wife and also aims to open a special driving school in the city to help dwarf and physically handicapped persons learn driving.
