This is Madhumita Bindhani, a very popular auto rickshaw driver in Balasore. Breaking all stereotypes, she has been able to make a mark in the male dominated drivers’ community.
A mother of two, Madhumita has set an example for many single mothers like her. Many thought that driving was not a profession meant for women, but the myth has been busted.
Madhumita is a resident of Badasahi in Mayurbhanj, and had got married to a man in the same town. However, after sometime the couple parted their ways due to reasons unknown. Since then, Madhumita has been taking care of her two children to rid them of an uncertain future.
Madhumita took things into her own hands and decided to embark on a journey which looked almost impossible for her in the beginning. But, with sheer determination, hard work and strong will power, Madhumita stood against all odds and became inspiration for many others.
In her response to the allegations, Gayatri said, “I know I have done wrong. I am also a poor. If I keep donating money like this, how can I survive... They even used foul words when I asked to return my money.”

Based on the reports and observations, the NGT directed the State government to deposit a sum of Rs 1 crore with the Divisional Forest Officer, Cuttack Forest Division, towards Environmental Compensation within a period of two months and file an affidavit of compliance in this regard.
