It's no secret that employee-employer wrangle over returning to office is growing day by day. Almost two years into the Coronavirus pandemic, many big IT companies such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Microsoft, Amazon, and others are still continuing their work from home policy.
But it seems employees who are working from home are not just sitting with one job! With the work-from-home (WFH) arrangement, a significant number of professionals in the IT sector are reportedly making money by taking up gig projects or by signing up with freelance websites.
Referring to a report by a financial daily, a national media (TimesNow) said that a multinational company observed a dip in output despite employees clocking in 9 to 10 hours a day. According to the report, the company has found out the performance issues by recently installed employee productivity software on office computers or laptops being used at home.
The company apparently discovered that many of its employees were engaged in activities outside of work. Speaking about the same, the IT firm’s legal advisor said that there is an increasing group of white collar employees who are taking advantage of the remote working setup and indulging in activities deemed as dual employment.
And, these issues are more prominently observed in the IT sector, the legal advisor said. That's the reason, companies are becoming especially alert and actively considering installation of monitoring software on office laptops being used at home, he added.
Experts also believe this may be the prime reason why many large IT companies want to end the Work-From-Home concept and call back their employees to offices by November-December.
