Wood for construction of chariots for Rath Yatra are arriving in Puri in phases. The construction of Raths will begin from the day of Akshay Tritiya on April 22. On the other hand, slicing of rough wood logs for chariot carving has begun in Cuttack. This year, the Rath Yatra festivities in Puri will begin from June 20. Wood logs required for chariots are sliced and kept ready for construction at Ratha Khala.

There are 12 main festivals of Lord Jagannath observed at Srimandir in Puri. Rath Yatra is one of them. This annual festival of nine-day sojourn of the deities to Gundicha temple, begins from the second day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Aashadha.
As per the decision taken in the meeting, temporary sheds will be set up on the Badadanda (grand road) in front of the temple keeping the soaring temperature in view.
