Niladri Bije is the last ritual of Rath Yatra that falls on the Asadha Shukla Paksha Trayodashi tithi. It is the home coming ceremony of holy Trinity after their sojourn to Gundicha temple. Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Sudarshan are taken inside the main temple in the Goti Pahandi, the ceremonial procession where after one deity is placed on the Ratna Singhashan, the procession for another deity begins. The deities are taken via Jay Vijaya entrance, from their respective chariots. There’s a very interesting ritual involved during the ceremonial pahandi of the deities. After Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra enter the temple, Goddess Laxmi closes the main door of the temple. She does not allow Lord Jagannath to enter the shrine. As per the legend, Goddess Laxmi is upset with Lord Jagannath as He takes His siblings to His aunt’s house leaving her behind. So, she locks Jay Vijaya Dwar in a bid to stop Prabhu Jagannath from re-entering Srimandir. Mahaprabhu tries to convince her but she refuses to let him in. The fight concludes when Lord Jagannath confesses his mistake and offers ‘Rasagolas’ to Mahalaxmi. Thereafter she accepts his apology and allows him to enter Shrimandir. This auspicious day is also observed as “Rasagola Dibasa” in Odisha. The first Rasagola Dibasa was celebrated on July 30 2015 on Niladri Bije, the day Rath Yatra concluded.
