On Thursday (July 8), food delivery platform, Zomato announced a reward under its bug bounty programme. If anyone finds bugs or vulnerabilities on Zomato’s mobile application or website, a person will get as much as Rs 2.99 lakh.
And, there is a range of rewards for each severity level - low, medium, critical and high, Zomato said in a statement available on HackerOne. To participate in the Zomato's bug bounty programme, the two-factor authentication has to be enabled, the food delivery platform informed.
The company said that its security team will be using Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) to determine the severity of vulnerability. The more severe a vulnerability, the more bounty or cash reward a hacker will receive. Zomato has cited examples of vulnerabilities like one critical vulnerability with CVSS 10.0 will be awarded $4,000 while a vulnerability with CVSS 9.5 will be awarded $3,000.
Zomato also said that the Bug Bounty Program is a crucial part of its security efforts and has promised to pay more for unique and hard-to-find bugs. Bug bounty hunters or ethical hackers are mostly certified cybersecurity professionals or security researchers who scan the systems for bugs and alert the companies.
Leading tech companies, like Facebook and Microsoft often organize bug bounty programmes with rewards to help improve their system.
