Registrations for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) UG-2021 have already kicked off and will be conducted till August 6. But there are a few additions that the students will come across this year, other than the changes in the examination pattern.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed that for the first time in the history of NEET(UG) exams, an examination centre has been opened in Kuwait in order to facilitate the Indian student community in the middle east. In another first, this year NEET-undergraduate exams will be conducted in 13 different languages with Punjabi and Malayam being the new additions.
The medical entrance exam will be conducted in several diverse languages to ease the opportunities for the states. The languages that will be offered include Odia, Hindi, Punjabi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Urdu and English. The minister further announced that the total number of cities where the medical examination will be held will be increased to 198 from the existing 155 cities.
Apart from this, there are plans to increase the exam centres from the 3,862 centres used in 2020. The Education minister stated that the initiative is in line with PM Modi's vision of promoting regional languages under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. On the other hand, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced some changes in the examination pattern of NEET-UG 2021.
The test pattern of NEET (UG)-2021 comprises two sections. Each of the subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology - will consist of two sections. Section A will have 35 questions and Section B will have 15 questions. Out of these 15 questions, candidates can choose to attempt any 10 questions. This is being done to rationalise the decision of reduction in the syllabus by various school education boards, the NTA has said.
There has been no change in the age limit for candidates applying for the NEET-UG exams. A candidate's age should be between 17 and 25 years and there is a relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST/OBC-NCL category and PwD candidates. After successful transaction of application fees, candidates can make corrections in their forms from August 8 to 12.
The NEET (UG) 2021 will be held on September 12 across the country as per COVID-19 protocols. Admit card will be issued three days prior to the conduct of the exam.
