At a time when the deadly coronavirus has forced the entire Odisha into another lockdown, the stray animals, particularly in the urban areas, have been left in the lurch. These stray animals are mostly dependent on humans for food, and they are facing a hard time. Curtailed human activity and closure of hotels and restaurants in the state are making it difficult for them to find food. Animal welfare organization - People For Animals (PFA) has been feeding stray dogs, monkeys and cattle roaming on the deserted streets in Bhubaneswar. While cooked food is being provided to stray dogs, cattle feed is being provided to stray cattle. Volunteer organizations in Bhubaneswar are receiving Rs. 20,000 daily from the the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the purpose. These organizations are also collecting donations to feed these stray animals. The Odisha government has released Rs 60 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to feed stray animals in urban areas during the lockdown period.
