Koraput Coffee Boost
Good news for the Koraput coffee growers. With Tata Coffee showing interest in procuring coffee from them, the coffee growers in Odisha’s Koraput are now hopeful. Coffee cultivation is carried out in Koraput along with Laxmipur, Kashipur, Nandapur, Lamataput and Pottangi Blocks.
With government assistance, the coffee from Koraput is made available in market. However, with Tata evincing interest in procuring coffee, it is expected that the production will get a much-needed boost. The Tribal Development Co-operative Corporation of Odisha Limited (TDCCOL) & the Koraput Agro Product Producer Company Limited jointly procure around 60 metric tonne coffee from the producers.
Around 31 metric tonne coffee have been sent to Karnataka.The district administration is carrying out activities to promote Koraput Coffee. In the current year, around 28,790 coffee cherries have been procured from 193 farmers.
Moreover, there are reports that another 80 hectare land will be put into coffee cultivation this year. Koraput Collector has said that Tata will procure more coffee in the coming days.
