As many as 26 applications from transgender candidates have been received in the recruitment drive for the SI post in Odisha Police. A total of 1,32,496 candidates have applied for the posts for which applications were invited by the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB). As per a press note released by the recruitment board, a total of 97,506 male applicants & 34,964 female applicants have applied for the posts. Odisha became the second state after Tamil Nadu to allow recruitment of Transgenders to Police Sub-Inspector rank. On June 22, Odisha Police had invited applications for 477 Sub-Inspector rank posts and for the first time, allowed candidates from the transgender community to apply for the posts. According to the notification issued earlier, the written exams for the post are likely to be conducted between August 6 and 16th.
