Ruckus During Fertilizer Distribution In Odisha

These unprecedented scenes are from Jharigaon in Nabarangpur district of Odisha. This is the Jharigaon Large Area Multipurpose Society (LAMPS) where famers in large number gathered for fertilizers on Friday (August 20). According to sources, the farmers gathered at the LAMPS after being assured of fertilizers. It is said that as per earlier assurance, each farmer was promised a packet of fertilizer. However, some farmers demanded two packets of fertilizer following which tension erupted. The ruckus soon went out of hand and even the LAMPS official was manhandled. Even the agitating famers ransacked tables and chairs and threw away documents. Later, Jharigaon Tehsildar, Umerkote SDPO and Jharigaon Police reached the spot and pacified the farmers. Later it was decided that each farmer will be provided one packet of fertilizer.
