Hundreds of residents of Dangadiha village at Mayurbhanj district in Odisha were seen putting their lives at stake by crossing Salandi River over two pieces of bamboos. The area is completely cut-off from the mainland due to incessant rain which caused swelling in the Salandi River.
According to the sources, for the last 4 days the villagers of Bala sahi, Bangali sahi and Gutu sahi have been depending on the bamboos to cross the river for their daily needs. Earlier, over 1500 villagers of this village used to depend on two temporary wooden bridges to cross the river.
As incessant rain battered the state, the Salandi River started swelling and those two temporary bridges were washed away. Subsequently, as many as 200 families of the village were stranded and communications to those areas were completely cut-off.
Without having any other option, the villagers tied two pieces of bamboos over the river with the help of a tree for crossing the river. The administrative officials tried to visit the place but could not reach the other side as the water level was high.
