Protests Erupt Over Proposed Mega Drinking Water Project, Sec-144 Imposed

Amid rising protests against a mega drinking water project, Section-144 has been imposed. This prohibitory order has been issued in Balakati, Bharigada, Barunadiha panchayats under Rajkanika of Kendrapara district. Section -144 has been issued to expedite the project.

Moreover, 15 platoons of police force have been deployed to maintain law & order in the area. Till the order remains in force, no public meeting will be allowed and there will be no congregation of more than 5 people. Over the past 2 years, the mega drinking water project is being opposed under the banner of Kharasrota Banchao Samiti.

The agitating members of the committee also staged a road blockade at Bharigada on Tuesday. Police reportedly arrested as many as 35 members of the committee.
