He helped the Indian Men’s Hockey Team bag an Olympic medal after a drought of over 4 decades Speaking exclusively to OTV, Birendra Lakra opened up about the difficulties he faced in his journey to win the bronze medal as part of the Indian Men’s Hockey team in Tokyo.
Hailing from a small village in Sundergarh district, Birendra always wanted to play hockey like any other boy in his village. Despite limited facilities, Birendra worked hard and received an opportunity to join a training academy which marked the beginning of his journey in the game of Hockey. Birendra first played at the London Olympics in 2012 but due to knee injury he missed the Rio Olympics. Overcoming mental blocks, Birendra staged a strong comeback which landed him on the podium of Tokyo Olympics.
