On Wednesday, police began a probe into the death of a young woman who was allegedly burnt alive in Pratappur village under Purushottampur of Ganjam district. A scientific team reached the spot to investigate the matter. It is being alleged that the victim was set on fire by a youth over a one-sided love affair.
The accused has been identified as Krushna Chandra Sahoo. As per reports, the victim was reportedly going to marry the accused Krushna Chandra Sahoo but the marriage was cancelled. As per the victim’s father, Krushna used to harass his daughter by calling her repeatedly even after their wedding was cancelled. The father of the deceased also alleged that he used to threaten the family members. It is alleged that the accused had invited the girl to a secluded place where the duo reportedly had an argument.
Subsequently, the accused allegedly poured some inflammable substance on the deceased girl and set her on fire. The girl sustained 80% to 90% burn injuries on her body. The girl was initially admitted to a hospital in Purushottampur and later shifted to MKCG hospital after her condition deteriorated. The girl succumbed to the burn injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital on Tuesday (July 28) evening.
