Disaster Management course will now be compulsory for first year students in all streams of Plus 3 in Odisha. This information was provided by Odisha Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo on Friday (July 23). The minister stated that the Odisha government has decided to make disaster management course compulsory for all undergraduate students in the state starting from September 2021. Sahoo informed that the new syllabus will be taught to all first year students in all universities and colleges across the state. This will be applicable to students enrolled in all three streams (Arts, Commerce & Science). The exam for the course will be conducted for 100 marks and will consist of 4 units. The Minister further explained that in addition to environmental studies, this course will focus on disaster management, pandemic management and imparting life skills. The course will help students get equipped with skills to manage disasters and pandemics at national, regional and district level.
