After Puri Srimandir, Lingaraj Temple's 'Singhadwara' (Lion gate) will soon get a coating of silver. A decision regarding the same, was taken at a meeting with 4 nijogs of the temple, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner and the officials of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Tuesday (Aug 24).
As per reports, the 'Singhadwara' of the temple was damaged during cyclone 'Fani' in 2019, which is being reconstructed by the ASI. However, since that time, the servitors of the temple have been demanding to replace the bronze coating of the wooden door with a silver coating, similar to that at Puri Srimandir.
Finally during the meeting on Tuesday, the ASI reportedly gave clearance to the long-standing proposal of the temple servitors. Meanwhile, other important discussions regarding the repair work at the temple were also discussed during the meeting.
Discussions were held regarding the defunct condition of the lighting arrester on the temple premises and various leakages that have surfaced in the main and other small temples in the premises. Meanwhile, the BMC has assured that it would take the servitor's demands to the state government.
