In an unfortunate incident, a youth who had attempted suicide near Odisha Assembly alleging denial of treatment under the Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana (BKKY), died at the hospital. On Wednesday (September 8), the youth slit his wrists and consumed poison while the Monsoon Session of Assembly was underway in the House.
The deceased Dusmanta Das hailed from Kujang area in Jagatsinghpur district. After the incident, he was taken to Capital Hospital first where he was referred to SCB Hospital in Cuttack. He passed away while undergoing treatment for pesticide poisoning.
As per reports, before being admitted to the Capital Hospital, Dusmanta told the media that he had met with an accident on March 22 last year. He had then sustained serious injuries on his left leg and was admitted to SCB Hospital for treatment.
However, after undergoing a surgery on March 23rd and another on June 19th, Dusmanta was allegedly discharged from the premier hospital on July 15, 2020 due to prevailing Covid-19 situation. Emergency Officer of the SCB hospital said that the doctors gave their best for his treatment but could not save him.
Dushmant's post-mortem was reportedly conducted late at night in SCB Hospital in Cuttack. After the autopsy, the body was cremated at Puri Swargadwar in presence of his family members this morning.
Meanwhile, Kujang Badapal BDO met wife of deceased Dushmanta today. The BDO reportedly handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to her and promised compensation of Rs 10 lakh. As per sources, the BDO has also given a verbal assurance of a job as per her qualifications.
