With the extremely severe cyclonic storm Tauktae wreaking havoc on the western coast of India, another cyclonic storm might be brewing in the Bay of Bengal (BoB). India Meteorological Department on Tuesday indicated development of a fresh cyclonic system in the Bay of Bengal. Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Madhavan Rajeevan tweeted on Tuesday that there are early indication of another system over Bay of Bengal around 23rd May. IMD’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar also informed that a low pressure area is likely to form over east-central Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood around May 23rd.Even as per three different weather models [US-GSF, ECMWF and CGEPS (MME) of Indian Institute of Tropical Metrology (IITM)], the Bay of Bengal is likely to churn a low pressure area in the north-east quadrant of the Bay of Bengal. These models also predict that the low pressure system will intensify to become a cyclone between May 23 and June 1.As per reputed weather models, the districts from Puri to Balasore might get affected and its impact may extend up to the northern districts of Odisha all the way till Jharkhand.
