Former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Sambalpur University Prof. Dhrubaraj Naik was allegedly axed to death on Sunday. A miscreant attacked the Professor with an axe when he was at his residence in Sargiguda. The former VC succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Jharsuguda Hospital. According to sources, the miscreant entered the Professor's residence at around 11:30 am today. He then reportedly demanded Rs 100 which Naik refused to pay. Suddenly, the miscreant attacked Naik with an axe and later fled the spot. Naik sustained critical injuries in the attack and was rushed to a private hospital in Jharsuguda. However, he was declared brought dead by doctors at the hospitals. Laikera Police has launched a detailed investigation into the matter. As per reports, the miscreant who belongs to the same village has been detained by police and is being interrogated.
