If everything goes as expected, popular silver filigree works of Cuttack will soon receive Geographical Indication (GI) tag. Odisha State Co-operative Handicraft Corporation has filed an application seeking GI tag for the silver filigree (Chandi Tarakasi) craft.
The Tarakasi craft work of Cuttack is popular across the world. During Dussehra, the skilled craftsmen of the silver city display their talent by preparing Tarakasi medha for Goddess Durga. After the initiative to secure GI tag began, the long-standing demand of the filigree workers now seems like a achievable dream.
Repeated requests have been made in State Assembly for obtaining GI tag for Tarakasi work. After state government has taken initiative for the same, Congress MLA Mohammad Moquim has expressed his gratitude to the government.
