Odisha Covid Deaths Drop: CFR Not To Be Examined Until Pandemic Is Over, Says Top Health Official

The state Covid deaths have come down to single digits since last two days. Clarifying on the high fatalities and sudden drop, Bijay Mohapatra, the Director of Health Services in Odisha, said that this is because audit of deaths could not be conducted when pandemic was in its peak stage in Odisha. According to the top health official, the case fatality ratio (CFR) should not be evaluated in the middle of a pandemic.

The health director said the CFR can only be calculated after the Covid-19 pandemic is over. Mohapatra informed that serological survey which is underway in all districts of Odisha will be fruitful in analysing how immune the general population is from the Covid-19 infection.
